El Gato Negro is coming to Manchester in 2015

egn_blackcat_guidebooks A special message from Simon…

Today we are delighted to announce an exciting new chapter in the story of El Gato Negro: we will be bringing our award-winning food and drink to Manchester city centre in 2015.

We’ve achieved so much since we opened our doors in 2005 – awards and accolades have increased our reputation and appeal to a wider audience – with the focus first and foremost on delivering quality and showcasing the richness and variety of Spanish food and drink. I am very proud of the consistency and quality we’ve achieved, and the recognition we’ve earned.

Simon Shaw portrait Sometimes working out of a small kitchen in the restaurant here in Ripponden has constrained our creativity, and our size has limited the number of diners who’ve been able to experience our food. As some of you may be aware, the lease for our current building expires in 2015. This has led me to explore options for the future, and after careful consideration I believe I’ve found the perfect opportunity by opening a larger and better equipped restaurant in a prestigious site in central Manchester.

Bringing El Gato Negro to the heart of the city will allow us to grow; offering me the ability to showcase a broader selection of the dishes and wines I’m so passionate about, and it will give more people the chance to enjoy them. We will remain true to our roots, with the emphasis firmly on our acclaimed modern Spanish cooking, where we combine the very best ingredients- whether Spanish or local – to create bold and exciting dishes.

We’ve seen more customers travel from Manchester to enjoy our take on modern Spanish cuisine, and have had a brilliant reception at pop-ups we’ve attended in the city. It’s definitely the right time to bring our northern, homegrown take on modern Spanish cuisine to a city where we know we’ll feel right at home.

As a result of this exciting opportunity we have made the sad decision to close El Gato Negro in Ripponden at the end of 2014, so we can focus entirely on the Manchester restaurant. We will be saying a heartfelt, fond farewell at our last event on New Year’s Eve, celebrating with friends and family in what’s sure to be a memorable occasion.

In more than nine successful years in Ripponden we’ve made many friends here, and have delighted in serving so many customers from both near and far. We hope to welcome many of those familiar faces to our new Manchester home when we open in mid 2015.

I am incredibly excited to build on what we’ve achieved so far, and believe the plans we have for El Gato Negro Manchester are very special, and will take what we do to a new level. We’ll be sharing more news as we develop the new restaurant, and hope you will remain in contact so you can be amongst the first to know. Thank you all so much for your ongoing support.
